Nurturing Care received a recent report from Jasmine Brenneman, Pastor to Families with Children at First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena who is one of our West Coast grantees with her “Room for Children” prototype. Our reports normally ask for either a “God sighting,” humorous story or encounter with congregants (whether they be good or bad encounters, we learn as we grow through the prototypes). Jasmine offered two updates.
The update included congregant responses. Jasmine reported one congregant was concerned about an upcoming intergenerational event. Jasmine noted the congregant said the older adults:
“were worried about the kids being too loud, but that she felt it would be a growing experience for them. We did have kids that wiggled and giggled during the singing, but I had so many of the adults in attendance tell me what a wonderful time it was and thank me so much. One lady said, she thought everyone should have a time like this with the children. In the end, Christ was worshiped, and relationships were formed, and children were seen.”
Jasmine included a God Sighting as she wrote,
“one of the men attending is a retired Dutch missionary to South Africa. One of the children who sat at his table is an immigrant (her mother is German and her father is English.) She has a lovely accent and he asked her if she spoke German and they soon were talking with each other throughout the Sunday School time, So sweet to see this. They shared God Sightings at their tables and the two of them would make little comments in German throughout.”
