Introduction and Invitation

Welcome to Nurturing Care, while this page primarily serves to invite participants to take our survey (below). We did want to welcome you if you are a first time visitor. You can find out more about our two initiatives on Virtue Formation and Autism at our main site www.nurturingcare.org or visit our blog https://discipleshipcommons.blog/category/nurturing-care/

Take Our Survey

As part of our Nurturing Care initiative Nazarene Theological Seminary is conducting a study exploring how elementary age children and adults experience God through worship and prayer. Our study is part of a long-range effort to better understand, and better minister, to children and adults as they experience God and nurture a Christlike character of caring for each other through worship and prayer.

About the Survey

What to expect: In this research, we will ask you questions about yourself, your spiritual experiences, your church community, and your relationships with people at church. We are asking you to participate in this 10-minute survey because you are an adult (over 18) participant and asking your child (with permission) to take a 5-minute survey if they are elementary age (5-12). Youth may take the survey if they would like since we do not want to bar their participation if interested.

Risks: There are no expected risks for participating in this research beyond what you might experience as a member of a church congregation; the kinds of questions we will ask you represent questions that participation in church may prompt. You can skip any question, or stop participating completely, if you don’t like a question or get bored. If you want to talk to anyone about your experiences in this survey, we encourage you to follow-up with your local church pastor or to contact Nurturing Care who have people can help you find an appropriate resource (contact information below).

Benefits: Although you may enjoy reflecting on the questions in this survey, we cannot guarantee you, or your child, any benefit for participation. However, your participation may inform our understanding of how children and adults experience church and worship. Ultimately, we want to help churches make decisions that foster children and adults’ spiritual formation, helping individuals love and look more like Jesus Christ.

Data Protection and Privacy: No names are asked as a part of the survey, neither your name nor the name of your child. Demographic information merely serves to correlate results for better clarity. Results from the electronic forms will be stored in a secured web storage by the researchers. Your identity to your individual responses will not be connected to you. This de-identified data may be made available to researchers not listed on this form.

You are free to decide whether you want to participate: Ultimately, your participation in this research is voluntary as it will be with your child. Although we would greatly appreciate your participation, you can stop participating at any time. Your decision whether to participate or not will not affect your relationship with any gathering, your church, or any of the schools/universities involved in this research project.

Questions and Contacts: If you have any questions about the study (before or after participating), please feel free to contact Dr. Dean G. Blevins, Professor at Nazarene Theological Seminary and Director of the Nurturing Care Grant. dgblevins@nts.edu, 913-523-3857.
